GUEST BEDROOM

GUEST BEDROOM

The Guest Bedroom Edit

A guest bedroom carries a particular responsibility. It’s the one room in a home designed almost entirely for someone else, often for people who arrive tired, out of routine, and slightly on edge in an unfamiliar space.

When it works, it does so quietly.

I think of guest rooms less as places to impress and more as spaces that help someone settle. The bed should feel immediately inviting. The lighting should be forgiving. There should be enough detail to feel considered, but not so much that it feels overly styled or precious.

In this room, the focus was on balance - between comfort and character, between familiarity and a sense of something special. Layered textures soften the space, while natural materials ground the palette and keep it from feeling overly decorative.

Pattern and colour are used sparingly, but intentionally. Soft blues and warm rust tones bring a sense of calm, while moments of contrast add interest without demanding attention. The mix of modern and antique pieces gives the room a lived-in quality, as though it has evolved rather than been assembled all at once.

A good guest bedroom doesn’t ask much of the person staying in it. It doesn’t need explanation. It simply makes space for rest, privacy, and ease - allowing guests to feel at home, even if only for a short while.
